Three months, 12 weeks, 90 days; theoretically, it can seem a long time, but life can pass you by if you stand still and before you know it, you blink, and you’ve not moved, you’ve been stuck in the same place. However, over the last three months, I’ve made one of the most drastic changes to my lifestyle, to the point where I’ve become a new person.
I’ve always struggled with my weight, I’ve always been the bigger guy, but one day I simply woke up and decided I didn’t want to be that person anymore- I had stood still for too long. Throughout lockdown, especially, I had become inactive, ate multiple takeaways a week, binge ate and drank several cans of fizzy juice a day. Finally, I took the plunge, enough was enough, so I joined JP gym. That’s where I met Chris, and he saw that I was unsure on a machine and took time out of his own workout to help me. I soon discovered that Chris was a PT in the gym, so I reached out, had a chat and decided that I needed his guidance to get to where I wanted to be, and he was the person to help get me there.
Chris helped me realise that it’s simply more than just turning up, lifting weights and going home again; the most important work happens outside the gym; nutrition is key, and he educated me on the fundamentals of maintaining a good diet on training and non-training days, which has opened my eyes. I liked food before, all kinds, but now my outlook has changed. Food is fuel, and anything can be enjoyed in moderation. Not only that, but Chris has also taught me a lot about smaller muscle groups, breathing, the big lifts and how to maintain an all-round level of fitness. Over the last 90 days, I’ve dropped 10kg, which on paper is sensational. But I’m feeling faster, stronger and a lot more body confident than I was before. This is showing in my exercises in the gym, football and generally in all walks of life. My journey started with me just wanting to lose weight. Now, if I’m honest, I couldn’t care what weight I am because I’m looking and feeling better, and well…I’m happy. But, there is every chance I could be even more satisfied; I’ve got more goals; I want to lift, pull up and run more. Not only has Chris pushed me as a trainer, but he’s been supportive as a friend and has always given me help whenever I’ve asked for it. He always takes the time to make sure I’m the best version of myself. I’ve accomplished all of this in 3 simple months, so my message is ‘All we have to decide is what to do with the time given to us’.
Three months is all it took, but this isn’t the end. It’s just the beginning.
